To our readers
A Paper for the People Who Keep the Snow
Four issues a year, by subscription. We begin at home, in Great Falls and across Montana, and work our way out into the Rockies.
Every ski hill is a small republic. There is the family that cut the first runs, the club that kept the tow turning through the lean winters, the patroller who has worked more seasons than anyone can count, the mechanic who knows every bolt on the lift by its sound. Their stories live in clubhouse scrapbooks and in talk at the bar after last chair, and too often nowhere else.
Snow Custodians is a newspaper for those hills: what is happening at them now, and how they came to be. Each issue carries news from the mountains, the business of running a ski area, the people who make a season possible, and pages from the past: the photographs, race results, programs and recollections that families have kept in drawers for decades.
We start where we live. The first issues cover Great Falls and the hills of Montana, large and small, open and long closed. From there we head into the rest of the Rockies, one region at a time, and we mean to do each one properly before moving on.
A paper like this is written by its readers as much as its editors. If you have a story, a photograph, a correction or a memory, we would like to hear it. If you would like a copy on your doorstep each season, put your name on the list below.
